History
There are many variations of the Willow Hybrid.
Originally marketed as “Austrees”, growers quickly found that hybridizing various Salix family members together would achieve a stronger, cleaner Willow that is less brittle, one of the less desirable points for the native species.
Used as wind breaks, privacy hedges, and buffers throughout the United States, the Willow Hybrid has been charted as growing 10 feet or more a year under optimum conditions. Also used to prevent erosion and as habitats for wildlife.
Although deciduous, once mature, they still provide a complete visual barrier, even during winter months due to the heavy interior branching from top to bottom.
Hedges of Willow Hybrid can get 50 x 10 feet. They are adaptable to many soil and temperature conditions.
